Family Reunion in Oakland: Tigers at Athletics

It was the Ultimate Sports Baby and my last day in the Bay Area. Our flight back to Chicago left from Oakland at 6:10 pm. Thus, I planned to attend the Oakland Athletics afternoon game before flying back to Chicago Sunday evening. My parents, brother, his girlfriend and her three kids were all attending the game. We had to buy tickets from the box office since we needed eight tickets. First, we needed room to spread out and second, scalpers usually do not have eight together for a cheap price. …

NHL Playoffs: LA Kings at SJ Sharks Game 2

After going back to San Carlos for an hour, my Dad and I were off to Game 2 of the Kings and Sharks playoff series.
Beg, Borrow and Deal
Since there were a few fans selling tickets outside of the arena on Thursday night, I chose to see if there were fans selling on Saturday night and not walk downtown to find any scalpers. That was a big mistake as there was nobody selling extra tickets around HP Pavilion.
The cheapest tickets on StubHub before the game were between $50 and $60. I …

No Strollers Allowed at Stanford Baseball

Saturday was another doubleheader day. My Dad and I were planning to attend Game 2 of the San Jose Sharks opening round series versus the Los Angeles Kings. But we were free in on Saturday afternoon, so we decided to also attend the Stanford baseball game versus Oregon St. The game started at 1 pm.
As was the case with the golf tournament, there were no scalpers for the Stanford baseball game so we bought tickets from the box office.

NHL Playoffs: LA Kings at SJ Sharks Game 1

My second sporting event for Thursday was the San Jose Sharks opening round playoff game versus the Los Angeles Kings. After the golf tournament, I dropped the Ultimate Sports Baby off at my parent’s house and drove down to San Jose for the game.
Beg, Borrow and Deal
In the past there have been plenty of scalpers outside of HP Pavilion. However, tonight there were no scalpers outside of the arena. They must have been downtown which is in the opposite direction from where I parked.
There were some fans who were selling …

The Birds Nest: Fresh Express Classic

After spending Wednesday at my parent’s house, Thursday was a doubleheader day. Once again both my parents were planning to work, so I brought the Ultimate Sports Baby to his first golf tournament – the Nationwide Tour’s Fresh Express Classic. I was concerned about brining Dylan to a golf tournament where the absence of sound is of the utmost importance, but when I called the tournament they told me all were welcome.
The tournament was held at the TPC Stonebrae in Hayward across the San Mateo Bridge from where my parents …

Once again I was back at AT&T Park for Tuesday night’s Giants game versus the Los Angeles Dodgers. This time my Dad was planning to attend. Also, Sean MacDonald (who runs the website sportsroadtrips.blogspot.com) was in town after arriving from Tokyo earlier today.
Parking at AT&T Park
This time I found a parking lot on Berry St. south of 5th St. that was only $20. It was definitely a long walk to AT&T Park, but worth saving $10 in my opinion. Plus, the parking lot was not that big so traffic getting …

Dodgers at World Series Champions Giants

For the first time since the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants moved to California, the Dodgers and Giants played a game with the Giants as World Series Champions.
My original plan for Monday night was to attend the Sacramento Kings game. The Kings are threatening to move after this season and I have not been to a Kings game since December 20, 1994. However, as the afternoon moved along, I decided I did not want to make the long two hour drive to Sacramento (which would be longer when …

Bay Area Doubleheader Day: Kings at Warriors

We had to drive to AT&T Park so we could drive across the Bay Bridge on our way to Oakland for the Golden State Warriors game. Since we had time before the 6 pm tip, we stopped for dinner at Everett & Jones BBQ in Jack London Square. This was the same restaurant we ate at on October 1, 2003 in between Giants and Athletics divisional series playoff games.

Beg, Borrow and Deal
My Dad wanted good seats for the Warriors game so I had my work cut out for me. Most …

StubHub Game Time Purchasing: Cardinals at Giants

It was a great day for a doubleheader. My Dad and I planned to attend both the San Francisco Giants game and Golden State Warriors game.
Parking
Parking was much easier today than it was on Friday. I have a friend who lives on Berry St. who let us park in his spot for free.
Beg, Borrow and Deal
In a turn of events, my friend told me that StubHub was now selling Giants tickets up until game time rather than cutting of sales two hours before the game as they do with Cubs …

San Jose Earthquakes are First Choice

It’s not every day you choose to attend a MLS game over an MLB World Series Championship ring ceremony or an NHL game. But that is exactly what my Dad and I chose to do.
After visiting my grandparents in Santa Rosa Saturday afternoon, my Dad and I had to drop off my Mom and Dylan in San Carlos. The San Francisco Giants were home at 7:05 pm with their World Series Ring ceremony starting at 6 pm. But, we passed AT&T Park on the way back, so the Giants game …
