Courtside Seat: Silver Stars at Sky

14 July 2010 No Comment

Last year the Chicago Sky hosted camp day at the UIC Pavilion – a Wednesday afternoon game in July. That day I received a free ticket outside of the arena and my seat was in the row behind the New York Liberty bench.

This year the Sky repeated the camp day event with an afternoon game at Allstate Arena. Since my office is only a 15-20 minute drive from Allstate Arena I decided to take a long lunch and attend the game. And, once again, as I approached the box office I saw a group that would probably have extra tickets leaving the box office. I asked if they had an extra and the guy handed me a ticket.

I never even looked at the ticket to see my seat location. I walked into the arena and planned to sit wherever when I noticed the ticket said Section 1, Row 1. I figured this must be good a good thing. And, it was. I was in the first row on the court – the first time I have ever sat courtside.

San Antonio Silver Stars at Chicago Sky
The Sky opened up an early lead and never relinquished it crushing the Silver Stars 88-61. With her third quarter rebound, Chicago guard Dominique Canty became the ninth WNBA player to have at least 2500 points, 900 rebounds and 900 assists.

As was the case last year, the arena was full of kids with their respective camps making the arena much louder than usual.

Post Game Dining
As usual I parked for free in the shopping mall parking lot adjacent to Allstate Arena. However, since it was camp day the concession stand lines were all long the entire game. So I decided I would eat after the game at one of the many options in the mall. I chose Culver’s since it was fast and they served burgers and milkshakes.
