Last night the Cubs unveiled the new Billy Williams statue which now sits where Harry Carey’s statue used to be – on the corner of Sheffield and Addison. Harry Carey’s statue was moved behind the bleachers on the corner of Sheffield and Waveland.
The Cubs lost to the Astros 7-3 as the only thing to root for during the game was whether Astros’ Michael Bourn would hit for the cycle – which he did not. He started the game with a triple, double and single but ended the game …

Meeting Tom Ricketts: Astros at Cubs

It’s not every game you see the owner of a professional team wandering around the upper deck handing out baseballs to each child he sees. But this is what occurred Monday afternoon as Tom Ricketts was spotted down the left field line in the upper deck of Wrigley Field.
I noticed he was giving out baseballs to kids in the upper deck so I asked him if the baseball had to make a memory for someone or if the Ultimate Sports Baby could have one. He gave the Ultimate Sports Baby …

For the second time this season, I witnessed the Cubs give up 18 runs at Wrigley Field. This time the Mets pounded the Cubs 18-5 as the Mets scored 5-runs in three different innings. This was only the eighth game I have attended in which one team scored 18 or more runs in the game.
Beg, Borrow and Deal
I sold my tickets to today’s game so rather than try to buy a ticket for today, I traded my extra ticket for yesterday’s game for a ticket to today’s game. In my …

The Mets and Cubs are clearly playing too poorly for FOX to keep them on the national broadcast as the game time was changed from 3:10 pm to 12:05 pm.  The game was calm (even Carlos Zambrano kept his cool after Carlos Beltran eluded Starlin Castro’s tag at second base in the fourth inning) as the Cubs defeated the Mets 5-3.  Castro became the first Cubs rookie since May 21-28, 1944 to have six straight multi-hit games.

10 Year Wedding Anniversary at Wrigley Field

Two years ago the Ultimate Sports Wife and I attended the Cubs game at Wrigley Field for our eighth wedding anniversary. That game was a night game but the eight-year anniversary is not a major milestone.
This year we also spent our wedding anniversary at the Cubs game but this time around it was our 10th anniversary. However, there is no way we would have attended if the game did not fall on a Friday afternoon. So, in that case, the game time was a blessing. Also, I could make the …

The Ultimate Sports Baby attended his 24th MLB game this afternoon and his 22nd Cubs game since being born on May 9, 2010.
The Cubs defeated the Pirates 5-3 to win the series as Thomas Diamond pitched 1 2/3 innings and received his first major league victory.

Blackhawks Jim joined us in Wrigleyville for the Cubs game tonight so we went to two usual places before the game.
Pre Game Dining
First up was Wrigleyville North – the cheapest place to buy beer around Wrigley Field on game day. Second, we went to Full Schilling since everyone was hungry. Now it is $7 to buy a 24 ounce beer and receive a free hot dog (it used to be $6). Since nobody was in the bar we actually received a second hot dog without having to purchase a second …

The Cubs are back at Wrigley Field for a nine-game home stand and crushed the Pirates in the first game back 14-2. It was Mike Quade’s managerial debut at Wrigley Field since Lou Piniella left the club last Sunday. Carlos Zambrano pitched well and hit a two-run home run to lead the Cubs to victory. 2010 Hall of Fame inductee Andre Dawson was honored before the game.

Two years ago I wrote that I should never drive to U.S. Cellular Field if the game is sold out. Today, I forgot about that advice since I thought I had to drive as I was going to the game with the Ultimate Sports Baby. I knew the New York Yankees were in town and I have been to Yankees games at U.S. Cellular Field in the past but they were on a Tuesday night and Thursday afternoon – not a Sunday afternoon – and not when Frank Thomas’ jersey …

It was Lou Piniella’s final game in Major League Baseball and Bobby Cox’s last game managing at Wrigley Field. It was a game for history. And, the Braves crushed the Cubs 16-5.
Pre Game Dining
Before the game we went to the Stretch located at 3485 N. Clark St. We originally went here last season because they have good food and had daily $2 beers. But beer prices went up to an outrageous $3.
Beg, Borrow and Deal
We needed to buy an extra ticket since my Dad and brother were in town. We …
