Premium Game for Tuesday Night Baseball?

26 May 2010 No Comment

2 ½ weeks ago, I questioned whether White Sox management knew how to price their tickets for weekend games against opponents nobody really cares about. After attending tonight’s Cubs game, I am now questioning whether the Cubs know how to price some of their games as well. Cubs management made a mistake when they made tonight’s game versus the Dodgers a premium-priced game – the most expensive games at Wrigley Field for the 2010 season.

Last night’s attendance was only 34,749 (84.4% full) – a far cry from their usual 40,000+ crowd. This lack of attendance shows that the ticket prices for tonight’s game were too high even though the Cubs may have generated more revenue.

Beg, Borrow and Deal
As usual, with a game that was not sold out I looked for deals on the streets outside of Wrigley Field. I did not end up looking for tickets until after the game started since I went to Mullen’s Wrigleyville before the game. I was only looking for good seats tonight since I was with my friend who bought my ticket on Opening Day. I went to one of the ticket brokers with a store front along Addison St. and bought two tickets in Section 133 row 13 for $35 each (face value was $78.04 each).

Los Angeles Dodgers at Chicago Cubs
Ryan Dempster shut down the Dodgers only giving up three-hits in eight innings in the 3-0 Cubs victory.
