New Year’s Eve at the United Center

31 December 2010 No Comment

Ever few years the Chicago Bulls play an afternoon game on New Year’s Eve. Nicole wanted to bring her great uncle to the play “White Christmas” which started at the same time the Bulls game did – 2 pm. Since you cannot bring a baby to a play, this was my opportunity to bring the Ultimate Sports Baby to his first Chicago Bulls game.

Beg, Borrow and Deal
I dropped Nicole and her uncle off at the theater around 1:30 pm which gave me plenty of time buy a ticket, find parking and get into the arena before the 2 pm tip.

However, what I had not planned on was the pouring rain. Rather than negotiating with scalpers while walking to the arena, I had to negotiate from the car. It was basically “drive-thru” ticket buying as I pulled into Billy Goat Tavern’s parking lot, called a ticket scalper over and offered him $20 for a $35 face value ticket. He wanted $40 but I knew I gave him a good offer and he accepted the $20.

New Jersey Nets at Chicago Bulls
Not too much to write about this game. The Nets made the game close as they were only down two points with 6 minutes left in the 4th quarter. The Bulls then went on a 5-0 run and never looked back defeating the Nets 90-81 on New Year’s Eve.
