The Chicago White Sox have a tradition – after every home run a White Sox player hits fireworks shoot off over the scoreboard. On top of this, one of the White Sox main promotions is fireworks night. Tonight, after the game, the White Sox had a scheduled fireworks night. What I did not expect was the fireworks display throughout the game. Andruw Jones, Carlos Quentin and Paul Konerko all hit home runs to give the White Sox a 5-2 lead through six innings.

But, the game appeared to be the Mariners when Jose Lopez hit a grand slam in the top of the 7th inning to give the Mariners a 6-5 lead – no official fireworks went off but it was a game changer. The White Sox followed that up with a run in the bottom of the inning to tie the game at six runs apiece.

The game was still tied heading into the bottom of the 9th inning when Andruw Jones stepped to the plate with two outs. On the 9th pitch of the at-bat, Jones hit his second home run of the game to give the White Sox a dramatic 7-6 firework filled win.

Beg, Borrow and Deal
After my “invalid” ticket incident last night, I was not in the mood to find a free ticket. If I found a scalper who gave me a good offer I would accept it. As I got off the train and walked towards the stadium, a scalper said he had a “cheap” ticket. I asked him what was cheap and he said $10. I agreed (trying to beat $10 is usually a lot of work). And, not only did he hand me a ticket in the upper deck, but he handed me a ticket for a hot dog meal as well. The hot dog meal at U.S. Cellular Field costs $5.75 so $10 for both was a good deal.
