Dirty Birds of Baseball

14 May 2008 No Comment

Here is some “dirt” to dish on…As if the high price of concession stand food wasn’t enough to curb your Game Day appetite, now we have some unsavory news to put us all on a diet.

Conde Nast Portfolio Magazine charted health-code violations in stadium food stands for 11 ballparks. Forget the standings, it seems as though the Colorado Rockies are the best in baseball when it come to health standards at Coors Field with an underwhelming (and unsettling) 11 violations.

So, who are the teams in last place in this “rat” race?:

The Angels and the A’s. Angel Stadium had a disturbing 732 violations while the McAfee Coliseum in Oakland, came in second place with 493. As FanNation reported, the Angel’s had a “major vermin violation” as well as “a cockroach infestation.” As for the A’s, they had problems with “overhead leakage” and “chemical contamination.”

I have always been a proponent of smuggling in a sandwich and snacks at the park, but it seems as though we now have legitimate reasons (beyond saving a few bucks) to get out of the concession lines and just focus on the game.
