BMW Championship at Cog Hill

9 September 2010 No Comment

My original plan was to attend the BMW Championship for the third round on Saturday. However, my plans changed when the Ultimate Sports Wife was selected to be an honorary coach at the Northwestern football game vs. Illinois St. on Saturday. With the Bears home on Sunday, I would have to attend the golf tournament on either Thursday or Friday afternoon. After looking at my meeting schedule at work, Thursday was the day to go.

This was my third trip to the PGA tournament at Cog Hill Golf & Country Club. The first two (2001 and 2005) were for the Western Open when the tournament was played over July 4th weekend.

I arrived at the course around 8:00 am and looked to buy a cheap ticket from someone who had an extra. As I walked to the box office to see if anyone was standing outside with an extra ticket, I passed a fan who was selling tickets for $20 each. I was hoping to beat that price so continued to the box office but nobody was there. I walked back to the $20 guy but he was gone. I walked back to the box office and found a guy who wanted $30 so I bought his ticket rather than continue to look for somebody. Face value for the round was $50 and my greediness cost me $10.

Matt Kuchar led the tournament through the first round with a 64, while Ryan Moore was second with a 65.
