April Doubleheaders: Pirates at Cubs

3 April 2011 No Comment

There is one thing I love about Chicago in the month of April – doubleheaders with the Chicago Cubs and either the Chicago Blackhawks or Chicago Bulls. Today, I planned to attend both the Cubs game this afternoon and the Blackhawks game this evening. Since, I was planning to bring the Ultimate Sports Baby to the Blackhawks game; I hired a babysitter for the Cubs game.

It could be a long Cubs season if Carlos Marmol keeps this up. The Cubs were down 2-0 and 3-2, but came back to lead the game 4-3 heading into the top of the 9th inning. However, as opposed to yesterday, Marmol gave up two runs in the inning and the Pirates won 5-4.

Carlos Pena nearly hit a grand slam as a fan spilled his drink on Garrett Jones. This was reminiscent of the August 12, 2009 game versus the Phillies where Shane Victorino had a beer dumped on him as he tried to catch a fly ball.
