MAC Championship at Ford Field

The Ultimate Sports Wife, Ultimate Sports Baby and I decided to take a weekend trip to Detroit. Our original plan was to fly to New York City, but chose Detroit since driving with an infant is easier than flying – plus the Detroit Lions were hosting the Chicago Bears on Sunday afternoon.
Nicole and I debated where we would stay in Detroit. One thought was to stay in Auburn Hills and be close to the Palace of Auburn Hills for the Detroit Pistons game Friday night. However, Nicole preferred to stay …

Camp Randall: Northwestern at Wisconsin

This game has been on my radar for a long time. I want to attend a game at each Big Ten football stadium but my preference is to attend a Northwestern road game. Since Nicole and I were not going anywhere this year for Thanksgiving, this was a perfect opportunity to attend a game at Camp Randall since Wisconsin was hosting Northwestern on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend.
My original plan was to drive to Madison on Saturday morning, attend the game and drive home after the game. However, on Friday …

Northwestern Football at Wrigley Field

It was a game we had looked forward to since it was announced in March – Northwestern football hosting Illinois at Wrigley Field. This would be the first college football game at Wrigley Field since 1938 and the first football game since 1970 when the Chicago Bears moved to Soldier Field.
Even my parents, who are also Northwestern alumni, flew in from San Francisco to attend the game. At first, we hoped this game would repeat annually, but with the announcement that both teams would score in the west end zone, …

Another Northwestern Win over Iowa

Once again Northwestern was hosting an 11 am kickoff. However, rather than bring the Ultimate Sports Baby with me, I called Nicole’s cousin from East Chicago, IN to come over and babysit. Thus, without the Ultimate Sports Baby with me I headed up to my usual tailgate early.
Beg, Borrow and Deal
In what may be my most convoluted ticket scheme in a long time – I ended up making money attending today’s Northwestern football game. First, a fan contacted me through this website asking me the best way to buy tickets …

Homecoming: Michigan St. at Northwestern

The Ultimate Sports Baby and I were off to Ryan Field as Northwestern hosted Michigan St. at 11 am for Northwestern’s homecoming game. As usual, we tailgated in the west parking lot on the corner of Central St. and Ashland Ave.

Beg, Borrow and Deal
I paid one of my friends, who I tailgate with all the time, $20 for his extra single (face value for season ticket holders is $36) rather than look for a free ticket.

Northwestern took a 17-0 lead and was ahead 17-7 going into halftime. …

Night Game at Ryan Field: Purdue at Northwestern

For the first time since September 15, 2007 Northwestern was hosting a night game at Ryan Field. Thus, even though the Chicago Blackhawks were raising their championship banner at the United Center and the U.S. Men’s National Soccer team was playing Poland in a friendly at Soldier Field, we went to the Northwestern game – my third choice.
However, it became my first choice for three reasons. First, the Ultimate Sports Wife insisted that we attend the Northwestern football game. This was the first Northwestern football game she would attend since …

TCF Bank Stadium: Northwestern at Minnesota

Saturday morning started just as any college football Saturday should – tailgating before 7 am. However, the only trick was that the “tailgate” was hosted at my friend’s house nowhere near TCF Bank Stadium. In his defense he did have a three-month old daughter and staying at home is much easier than venturing out. But, I still did not get to hang out with the crowds.
After eating burgers for breakfast we headed to TCF Bank Stadium. I drove my rental car since I was driving straight to the airport after …

Ultimate Sports Wife as Honorary Northwestern Coach

As I wrote Thursday night, the Ultimate Sports Wife was selected to be an honorary coach for today’s Northwestern football game. The “honorary” coach gets to eat breakfast with head coach Pat Fitzgerald at the team’s hotel, attend two pre-game meetings, and watch the game from the sideline.

For me, this meant I had to attend the Northwestern football game with the Ultimate Sports Baby – alone. As usual, I met my friends for their pre-game tailgate. I parked for free on Colfax St. near the corner of Ashland Ave. I …

The drive from Dallas to San Antonio took four hours, which was perfect timing for the 8:00 pm kick off. I was near the Alamodome at 7:30 pm, but needed to find parking. Even though I have attended a sporting event three other times at the Alamodome, I have never had to find parking for the game. I usually walk from the River Walk.
ParkingAfter driving past a few lots that were already full, I found a parking lot on Crocket St. that was open. For $20 I parked by the …

There were three sporting events occurring at the same time in the San Francisco Bay Area today. First was the Emerald Bowl in San Francisco between Boston College and USC. Kickoff was scheduled for 5 pm. Second, the Golden State Warriors were hosting the Phoenix Suns in Oakland. Tip-off was scheduled for 7:30 pm. Third, the San Jose Sharks were hosting the Anaheim Ducks in San Jose. Puck drop was schedule for 7:30 pm. Since all of these games overlapped we could only pick one to attend.
The Emerald Bowl was …
