Angels First Visit (and last MLB team) to Wrigley Field

18 June 2010 No Comment

For some scheduling reason, the Los Angeles (Anaheim) Angels had never visited Wrigley Field until today and are the last Major League Baseball team to do so.

Pre Game Dining
Before the game, my friend Cory and I went to Murphy’s – a bar I rarely go to since it is overpriced and overcrowded. But for some reason I went after yesterday’s game and before today’s.

Anaheim Angels at Chicago Cubs
The Angels took advantage of consecutive errors in the 7th inning by Jeff Baker to take a 6-2 lead which they later added another run to take a 7-2 lead heading into the ninth inning.

That’s when the Cubs bats and the weather started to make noise. Just before one of the most intense Chicago thunderstorms I can recall, the Cubs scored four runs in the bottom of the 9th inning to close the Angels lead to one run. But, the Cubs could not overcome the deficit losing 7-6. The irony is that the thunderstorm occurred against the Angels who play in Orange County – one of the most mild weather areas in the country.

Seventh Inning Stretch
Chicago’s Superfans from Saturday Night Live, Bob Swerski and Carl Wollarski, made a rare appearance as they sang “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the seventh inning stretch.
