A Hero (or Zero) in our Midst

4 April 2008 2 Comments

I have a moral dilemma. My husband’s childhood sports idol, Jose Canseco, is signing his new book, Vindicated, at the downtown Barnes and Noble. I got a frantic call before leaving for work. The Ultimate Sports Fan was out of breath…“Jose is signing autographs downtown at the Barnes and Noble.”

Assuming that he would skip out of work and drive back into the city, I was excited for him. “Will you go for me?” Apparently, if you cannot make it to see your idol, then sending your wife is fair game.
I have been brooding over this for hours now. Do I get to work on my dissertation or take a cab ride to see a man who has been “vindicated” by other’s drug use? Someone please play the Meatloaf song:
“I would do ANYTHING FOR LOVE…But, I won’t do THAT?” I think this is the that.

I wouldn’t go either. If you can’t make it, I’ll pass you his cell phone number. You can also find him at Santa Monica’s Memorial Park on Sundays playing coed softball.

Thanks, Will. you are my first comment ever…if you needed me to get an autograph on your behalf, I might actually do it :)
