Smith making his debut in Funny Car on the NHRA circuit. Smith with a nice looking pass until just past half track when the car lost traction. Left Lane: Frank Hawley Runs 4.969/314.17, Now #2 Right Lane: Del Worsham Runs 4.956/309.27, Now #1 Hawley pedaled it one time and then after crossed the finish line it appeared the strong cross wind caught him and pushed him over by the wall. It appears he did tag the wall. When the car came back to earth it appeared to break the steering as the car crossed the centerline and hit the left wall hard and then bounced back across the track and it appeared to hit the right wall harder. Bartone is out of the car and okay, but the car appears to have a lot of damage. Pedregon had the chutes out and and he did a great driving job as the rear end was completely off the ground...the car bounced hard to a stop and Pedregon was able to keep the car off the wall. They left together and Worsham was up in smoke as soon as he hit the throttle and then something happened because it was dead in the water when Densham went up in smoke. Densham was up in smoke and pedaled it and it through the blower belt off. Densham coasted on through for the win.
