WCBK: #1 Connecticut at DePaul by Ultimate Sports Fan, Andrew

When living in Chicago, it is not easy to see the #1 College Basketball team in the country – Men or Women’s. Chicago’s two main Division I Basketball programs are DePaul and Northwestern – so the #1 team always needs to be the opponent. So given the opportunity to see Geno Auriemma and the top ranked Connecticut Huskies, I headed to McGrath Arena last night.

I was not sure what the ticket market would be. Women’s basketball hardly ever has a secondary market, so I was concerned the game would sell out and nobody would be selling tickets on the street. When I arrived at the box office, there were a few tickets available. A man in a Huskies hat had an extra and wanted face value ($20 versus the usual $10 for a DePaul Women’s game). I decided to pay the $20 rather than negotiate him lower. I was in charity mood.

The game was one of the more exciting games I have been to in recent memory. DePaul led the Huskies by 17 in the second half, but then saw their lead trickle away. Connecticut removed the lead about 1 point per minute until Ketia Swanier drove the floor and with a lay up made the winning basket with 1.6 seconds left.

For the second consecutive Saturday night, I just missed a storming of the court in College Basketball.
